PUPPIES
Chewing is a common problem that dog owners often have to deal with. When your puppy first arrives home, everything is great, and he’s just a big ball of cuteness, but then - one day, you find that Mr. Puppy has chewed your favorite pair of slippers to pieces. Not cool.
As annoying as chewing can be, you have to remember that this behavior is completely normal for young dogs; they use the act of chewing to relieve teething pain, and to explore their surroundings. This is the same as you’ll see babies doing, but unfortunately, your pup has much sharper teeth!
Even though this behavior is normal, it doesn’t mean that you have to put up with your shoes and furniture being destroyed - all in the name of puppy happiness! Instead, there are some easy ways to stop the chewing, and redirect your puppy’s energy elsewhere!
OLDER DOGS
We’ve all heard the phrase “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” well, as luck would have it; you can!f your older dog has just taken up the destructive hobby of chewing, or you’ve rescued an older dog with this bad habit already ingrained, then you first need to figure out why the behavior is taking place
Separation anxiety
is one of the biggest causes of chewing in older dogs. As incredibly sociable creatures, dogs often find it stressful to be left alone, and can get worked up into an emotional frenzy - the output of that energy often being destructive chewing.
